The former executive director of the BC Civil Liberties Association (BCCLA) has sparked outrage after she praised Hamas for its recent attack on Israel that killed more than 1,400 people and took hundreds of hostages.

Harsha Walia, who resigned from the BCCLA in July after tweeting “burn it all down” in response to Catholic church burnings in British Columbia, spoke at a pro-Palestinian rally in Vancouver on Saturday.

In her speech, Walia said: “How beautiful is the spirit to get free that Palestinians literally learned how to fly on hang gliders.”

Clean tech crown corporation funding companies tied to its board members

Companies connected to members of a federal crown corporation’s board of directors have received tens of millions of dollars in funding from the organization tasked with investing in new clean technologies.

A review by True North shows that Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), a foundation established and funded by the Canadian government, has been doling out money to companies its board members own or work for.

SDTC operates at arms length from the government but is funded by Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada (ISED). Its mandate is to advance clean technology innovation by funding clean tech companies and their projects.

However, an ISED report conducted by the consulting company Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton and leaked to True North found that the members of SDTC’s board have been funding companies with which they are directly involved.

Following the report, Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne announced the government was temporarily freezing SDTC funding, though the crown corporation denied any wrongdoing.

Surge in asylum applicants after Liberals waive visitor visa requirements

A recent surge in asylum applications at Canadian airports is being attributed to a quiet policy change by the Liberal government relaxing certain requirements for visitor visa applicants.

According to the Globe and Mail, data from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) reveal that, between January and September this year, over 26,000 individuals have submitted asylum claims at airports, a 54% increase over the same period last year.

This uptick coincided with two significant events – the much publicized March 2023 closure of Roxham Road, a well-known illegal border entry into Quebec, and the federal government’s secretive implementation of a temporary policy in February 2023.

The immigration policy change essentially eliminated the need for visitor visa applicants to demonstrate proof of financial resources and an intent to leave Canada upon visa expiration – making room for visa overstays and otherwise previously ineligible applicants to enter Canada.

The change, which wasn’t publicly disclosed until June 2023, was intended to expedite application processing and reduce the backlog, which stands at over 2.6 million cases in IRCC’s inventory.

This policy is in effect until the end of this year.

Critics of the policy argue it has created a loophole for potential asylum seekers, enabling them to enter Canada as visitors and subsequently submit asylum claims at airports.

“(It) makes our immigration system seem unreliable,” immigration lawyer Zeynab Ziaie Moayyed told the Globe and Mail.

“(This is) a short-sighted way to reduce that backlog, but creates all kinds of other problems.” 'Continue…

Cyber attack launched against Canadian MPs linked back to China

A series of “spamouflage” cyber attacks on Canadian politicians has been linked to China, which has operated numerous bot networks responsible for leaving thousands of comments on the social media accounts of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and others.

Global Affairs Canada (GAC) published a statement about the swarms of comments that were leveling nefarious accusations at a variety of politicians, revealing that it was detected through Ottawa’s “Rapid Response Mechanism” (RRM).

The RRM subsequently traced the online campaign back to China.

The campaign went after MPs across the country as well as political party lines, posting comments in English and French to their social media accounts.

It first began in early August and continued, “accelerating in scale” through to September.

Less than half of the Temporary Resident Permits met qualifications

According to the requirements of the program, applicants must demonstrate 'compelling reasons to warrant the issuance of the permit and how it outweighs the risks.'

The program allows claimants who are otherwise prohibited from entering Canada to stay for up to three years and qualify for health care and welfare.

The permits, costing $200, are issued at the discretion of customs officers if the agents are “satisfied the foreign national’s need to enter or remain in Canada is compelling enough to overcome the health and safety risks to Canadian society.”

According to the requirements of the program, applicants must demonstrate “compelling reasons to warrant the issuance of the permit and how it outweighs the risks.”

Fewer than half of the claimants to the program met all the qualifications, as first reported Monday by Blacklock's Reporter. Of the 168 files checked at random:

“14 percent had no address documented”;

“24 percent had no description of the compelling reason to warrant issuing the permit”;

“26 percent did not document the relevant circumstances that prompted the favourable decision to issue the permit”;

“27 percent did not document the reason for the duration of the permit”;

“Only 48 percent were fully compliant.”

The program has failed four previous audits in 2008, 2017, 2019 and 2021.

As of 2021, China controls 3.5% of all foreign-owned assets in Canada, or $83.5 billion — down from 3.7% the year before.

Foreign ownership of Canada’s economy fell precipitously in recent years, according to government data.

According to an October 23 Statistics Canada report, Corporations Returns Act, 2021, said the foreign-controlled share of Canadian assets declined from 15.1% to 14.9% between 2020 and 2021. That amounts to $2.4 trillion in assets.

Eight countries account for 87.3% of all foreign-controlled assets in the country, with the U.S. accounting or the largest share (52.3%), according to the StatsCan report.

As of 2021, China controls 3.5% of all foreign-owned assets in Canada, or $83.5 billion — down from 3.7% the year before.

As it pertains to China, the federal government said in March it would not ask Beijing again to divest stakes in three of Canada’s large mining companies, reported Reuters.

“If you start looking backwards at investments, it will create all kinds of uncertainty about whether an investment is ever really an investment,” Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson told reporters. Continue…

Yet, we are now seeing tireless efforts by the same groups, official and informal, the same centers of power who spent years circulating alarmist statements about a supposedly dangerous prevalence of “misinformation” in the media – wanting to be the ones to tell the world how to “rebuild trust in the media.”

In the new episode of World Economic Forum (WEF) series of musings – a bid to lay the foundations of a future “world (dis)order” on a number of key issues – the Switzerland-based global elite’s mouthpiece touches on precisely the trust in the media – and how to bake AI into their proposed solution.

At the same time, the Global Coalition for Digital Safety, which is its “public-private coalition to tackle harmful content and conduct online” – is being promoted.

It bears repeating, the problem of mistrust in the media is created by the likes of the WEF, i.e., its “stakeholders”: it’s the censorship enacted by the most influential legacy media, with the excuse of fighting “misinformation.”

And now it’s true: why would anyone believe this media? Censorship opponents say – that’s the outcome of unjustified censorship – while the WEF argues, that those outlets weren’t censoring enough, i.e., they let too much “misinformation” through.

The figure of “only 40% of the population trusting news” in the UK is mentioned. They don’t go into exactly why – but imply – it’s “rampant disinformation.”

By whom? (They don’t go into that, either.)

Canada Freedom Convoy Ottawa Court Case: Why Are Increasing Covid-19 Vaccine Mortality and Serious Injuries Not Being Used as Evidence in Support of the Protest Movement?

Regarding the court case underway in Ottawa against key people involved in the Freedom Convoy, why is the defence team not using the ever-increasing medical evidence that the injections of so-called vaccines were, and are, causing a rate of injuries and deaths that far outweigh any known benefit from the roll-out of the injections?

For example, all populations that have been subjected to the injections have recorded an alarming jump in the death rate that coincided with the start of the injections, and the magnitude of the increase in local populations correlates with the percentage of that population that was injected.

Further, to date, the death rate remains significantly higher than the historical, pre-roll-out death rate. The medical evidence is also showing correlations between the roll-outs and the jumps in such ailments as myocarditis, pericarditis, cancers, disrupted menstruations, miscarriages, and stillbirths.

Given these serious health impacts being caused by the injections, the mandates to coerce injections were an egregious attack on the health, safety, and well-being of all Canadians.

Hence, participants and supporters of the Freedom Convoy were more than justified to strenuously object to mandates which penalized persons who declined to receive the injections. The Freedom Convoy and its organizers deserve to be thanked for their stand against the mandates.

And thank you too to the citizens of Ottawa who were inconvenienced by the Convoy’s efforts on behalf of all Canadians.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Maurice Patenaude, at the age of 54, on September 26, 2023.

An Air Canada captain, he flew his last flight in December 2022 following a diagnosis of terminal renal cell carcinoma. He fought this dreadful illness valiantly and tenaciously, characteristic of his indomitable spirit.

A career pilot, Maurice was very much appreciated and respected by all; it was with the Canadian Air Force reserves and Air Canada that he was able to fulfill his passion, flying.

He is mourned by his new bride, his family, his friends, his aviation colleagues and all who crossed paths with him.

His decision to leave his body to medical research reflects his wish to contribute to the battle against cancer. Respectful of his wishes there will be no traditional funeral but rather a celebration of life, details to be announced.

In this period of mourning, we thank the staff of the Medical Surgical Intensive Care unit of the Toronto General and his oncologist Dr. Fallah-Rad.

Swiss Parliamentary elections on 22 October 2023 resulted in a landslide to the right. Granted, Switzerland was mostly right leaning for years. However, this rather strong shift to the right was internationally not expected.

The right-wing People’s Party, already with a Parliamentary majority, gained nine new seats to the detriment of the Greens and the Liberal Greens. Together they lost 11 seats. The middle parties stayed about where they were before. The socialists made a modest gain of two seats, probably spillover from the Greens.

A whistleblower working for Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) is accusing the clean tech fund of laying off scores of employees to cover up complaints and allegations of corporate misconduct.

The allegations are supported by a Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton report that identified problems with the clean tech fund’s employee turnover, internal cultural issues, and a general failure of human resources policies.

The whistleblower, whom True North is not naming, said that over the course of several years, dozens of SDTC employees were laid off without cause and have been forced to sign restrictive non-disclosure agreements, legally barring them from speaking up.

The source claimed that for years, some SDTC employees had noticed the organization had been deviating from its mandate by funding ineligible organizations and making funding decisions where there were clear conflicts of interest between the board and the recipients.

However, the whistleblower said that whenever SDTC employees took notice of the corporate mismanagement and tried raising the issues with their superiors, management would initiate layoffs.

Montreal bans natural gas, oil and propane in new buildings

The City of Montreal is ruling out natural gas, oil and propane as an option for heating and cooking in all newly constructed buildings as part of a new bylaw.

Beginning in October 2024, all new buildings constructed with three floors or fewer will be banned from having any gas hookups as part of a bylaw approved by Montreal’s executive committee. The ban will be extended to larger buildings by April 2025.

Any building that has not been granted a permit by the announced deadline will be subjected to the new requirements, meaning that they will not be allowed to have gas stoves, water heaters or heat pumps for hot tubs and pools.

Propane, natural gas and heating oil all fall under the new ban. Buildings that are hooked up to existing urban heating networks and industrial buildings will be exempt however, according to the Montreal Gazette. Continue…
