All nations must ban aid to Israel – BRICS member

South Africa’s top diplomat has condemned military support for West Jerusalem following the World Court’s genocide ruling

All countries must refrain from supporting Israel’s military in light of last week’s International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling concerning the war in Gaza, as they could be making themselves accomplices to genocide, South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor has argued.

“The finding, we think, makes it clear that it is plausible that genocide is taking place against the Palestinian people in Gaza,” Pandor told reporters on Wednesday in Pretoria. She added that other nations therefore must ensure that they are not aiding such conduct in the Israel-Hamas war. “This necessarily imposes an obligation on all states to cease funding and facilitating Israel’s military actions, which as the court has indicated, are plausibly genocidal.”

The ICJ, also known as the World Court, ruled on January 26 that Israel must take all necessary steps to prevent a genocide in the Palestinian enclave. West Jerusalem also was ordered to punish members of its military who commit genocidal acts, as well as government officials who call for genocide. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the UN court’s finding “outrageous” and vowed that no Israeli soldiers would be “hauled before the international Criminal Court in the Hague.”

Although the ICJ stopped short of demanding a ceasefire in Gaza – as South Africa requested when it lodged its case against Israel under the UN Genocide Convention last month – Pandor said the decision marked a “decisive victory” for international law. However, she insisted that the UN must have a greater “implementation role” to enforce ICJ rulings, rather than merely observing and documenting international atrocities.

Nearly 27,000 people – primarily civilians – have been killed in Gaza since the war began in October, according to Palestinian health officials. The conflict started when Hamas fighters launched surprise attacks against Israeli villages, killing more than 1,100 people and taking hundreds of hostages. Around 85% of Gaza residents have been displaced from their homes, and the UN has reported that 570,000 people in the besieged enclave are starving.

US President Joe Biden’s administration approved two emergency weapons sales to Israel last month, bypassing congressional approvals. Washington will not alter its support for Israel as a result of the ICJ ruling, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters last week. Kirby previously called South Africa’s genocide allegations against Israel “meritless.”

Owner of Victorian bookstore Robinsons doubles down in spite of online hate after complaining about lack of books for men and too much diversity suggesting the publishing world was oversaturated with "woke" literature

The owner of a prominent Victorian bookstore chain who was persecuted online for suggesting the publishing world was oversaturated with "woke" literature has reiterated her concerns over a lack of books marketed towards men and boys.

The owner of Victorian bookstore chain Robinsons has doubled down after being hounded online following controversial tweets where she complained about publishers inundating stores with books promoting a “woke agenda that divides people”.

Susanne Horman was blasted on social media after a series of tweets last year in which she called for more books featuring positive male leads, as well as stories featuring traditional nuclear families, kids' books with “just white kids on the cover” and less “wheelchair, rainbow or indigenous art”.

While apologising for wording her concerns "so poorly", Ms Horman reiterated her concern lied with a gap in the market where too few books for men and boys were entering the publishing sphere.

NATO AND UKRAINE TARGETED CRIMEA WITH DOZENS OF MISSILES (VIDEO, MAP UPDATE)

The Ukrainian military resumed attacks on the Crimean peninsula. On the night of January 30, the Russian 31 Air Defense Division destroyed 11 Ukrainian UAVs over the western coast of Crimea. Most of them were shot down in the north-western part of the peninsula near Portovoe. More drones were intercepted near the western Cape Tarkhankut and Belbek military airfield located on the outskirts of Sevastopol. No damage was reported as a result of the attack.

As it was predicted, the massive drone attack was launched in an attempt to probe Russian air defense. The main strike took place on the evening of January 31. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Russian air defense forces destroyed 20 Ukrainian missiles. 17 of them were shot down over the Black Sea, 3 more were destroyed over the Crimean peninsula.

The local authorities confirmed minor damage to civilian buildings in several areas, where the wreckage of missiles fell. No civilians or servicemen were reportedly wounded or killed.

The military officials confirmed that wreckage of Ukrainian missile fell on the territory of the military base in Lyubimovka on the outskirts of Sevastopol. According to the official reports, the wreckage caused no damage to Russian aircraft and equipment deployed in the area.

Soon after the attack, a video reportedly showing the strikes on the outskirts of Sevastopol was shared online.

Judging by the footage, at least two missiles struck in the area. More missiles are heard intercepted on their way to the target. The Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG missiles reportedly struck the area near the Belbek airfield. Judging by the footage, indeed the missiles struck the field near the military facility. Thus, any damage to the Russian military is yet to be confirmed.

British/French missiles targeted the Crimean peninsula soon after Paris declared supplies of new batch of missiles to Kiev. LINK Dozens of them have already been destroyed by the Russian air defense forces.

The attack was carried out with NATO missiles and it was coordinated by NATO reconnaissance means. Several hours before the attack, numerous NATO aircraft were spotted over the Black Sea coast in Romania.

U.S. Military Changes Story on What Happened to Navy SEALs Lost at Sea

U.S. authorities are updating their initial assessment regarding the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two Navy SEALs who perished during a mission to intercept an unmarked vessel transporting illicit Iranian-manufactured weaponry to Yemen.

Following further discussions with personnel involved in the operation, U.S. officials revealed on Wednesday that Navy Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Christopher J. Chambers was in the process of boarding the ship on January 11 when he inadvertently slipped into the gap created by the turbulent waves between the vessel and the SEALs’ combat craft. According to the Associated Press, as Chambers fell, Navy Special Warfare Operator 2nd Class Nathan Gage Ingram leaped in an attempt to rescue him.

Initially, U.S. officials had indicated that Ingram had fallen into the water, with Chambers following suit. Both SEALs were lost at sea as rescue efforts proved unsuccessful.

Naval Special Warfare Command released a statement affirming that an ongoing investigation seeks to ascertain further details surrounding the event. Chambers, aged 37 and from Maryland, enlisted in the Navy in 2012 and completed SEAL training in 2014. Ingram, aged 27 and hailing from Texas, enlisted in 2019 and graduated from SEAL training in 2021.
