US unleashes strikes across Middle East

Washington has launched a new bombing campaign against Iranian-backed fighters in Iraq and Syria

04 February 2024

16:35 GMT

US airstrikes on Syria, Iraq and Yemen over the last two days were only the “first round” of Washington’s military response to last week’s drone attack on a US base in Jordan, White House national security spokesman John Kirby told NBC.

“We intend to take additional strikes and additional action to continue to send a clear message that the United States will respond when our forces are attacked or people are killed,” he said.

Kirby promised “more steps - some seen, some perhaps unseen” in comments to CBS, while stressing that he would not describe the planned US actions in the region as “some open-ended military campaign.”

16:15 GMT

Further aggression from the US and UK will not sway Yemen’s Houthis from their decision to act in support of the Palestinians of Gaza, the group’s spokesperson Mohammed Abdulsalam said in a statement, adding that the movement’s military capabilities had been forged during years of brutal war and would not be easily destroyed.

14:51 GMT

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced on X (formerly Twitter) that British Typhoon fighter jets “successfully took out specific Houthi military targets in Yemen, further degrading the Houthis’ capabilities.”

He denounced as “unacceptable” the attacks on merchant vessels in the Red Sea being perpetrated by Yemeni Shiite Houthi militants. The PM added that it is London’s duty to “protect innocent lives and preserve freedom.”

Earlier in the day, the US Central Command revealed that a series of combined air- and sea-launched strikes had taken out at least 36 Houthi targets in 13 locations across Yemen.

14:07 GMT

Hamas has reacted to the US and British strikes on Yemen, calling them “a blatant assault on the sovereignty of a sister Arab country and an escalation that will drag the region into further turmoil.”

The Palestinian armed group has called on the regional organizations such as the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation “to take a decisive stance against the American aggression that violates the sovereignty of our Arab countries” and also to take practical steps towards stopping the Israeli attacks on Gaza, ongoing for over 120 days now.

12:21 GMT

The head of Iraq’s Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) has demanded the withdrawal of US-led coalition troops from the country, following American airstrikes against the group, which is now integrated into Iraq’s regular armed forces, AFP has reported.

“Targeting the Hashd al-Shaabi is playing with fire,” Faleh al-Fayyad warned during a funeral ceremony for members of the group who were killed in the US attack. The Americans hit “administration offices, a hospital, they struck forces tasked with protecting the borders,” he claimed.

Hashd al-Shaabi said earlier that 16 of its fighters were killed and 36 were wounded on Friday, in what Washington called retaliatory strikes against Iran-backed forces in Iraq and Syria. The US was responding to a deadly drone strike on American troops stationed in Jordan a week ago.

”We urge the prime minister [of Iraq] to do everything in his power to defend the sovereignty and dignity of Iraq. And this can only be done with the departure of all coalition forces from Iraq,” Fayyad insisted.

10:27 GMT

The strikes on Yemen by the US and UK are “in stark contrast to Washington and London repeatedly claiming that they wouldn’t like to see war and conflict spread in the region,” Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said in a statement.

He described the attacks against the Houthis by the Americans and the British as “adventurism and a worrying threat to international peace and security.” The international community should hold the two countries responsible for those actions, Kanaani stressed.

The US and UK are themselves “stoking chaos, disorder, insecurity and instability” by supporting Israel amid its conflict with Hamas in Gaza, Kanaani added.

EVIDENCE Provided by Michigan’s Dishonest SOS Reveals HUNDREDS of Individuals Cast More Than One Vote Under Same Voter ID in 2020, 2022 and 2023 Elections—Why Hasn’t Anyone Been Prosecuted?

Only two months before the 2020 election, Michigan’s politically motivated Attorney General Dana Nessel warned voters they would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law if they cast more than one vote in an election. Michigan’s crooked Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson joined Nessel, warning Michigan voters against committing voter fraud while assuring the public she has safeguards in place to ensure this doesn’t happen.

The warning shot fired by the politically motivated Democrat duo came on the heels of President Trump suggesting that voters who submit ballots by mail should show up to their polling location to make sure their ballot was tabulated.

The funny thing is that there were very few prosecutions related to voter fraud in the state of Michigan in 2020, including prosecutions related to the statewide investigation into a registration voter fraud scheme by GBI Strategies/Empower Michigan that was hidden from the public and from city clerks by MI SOS Jocelyn Benson and MI AG Dana Nessel.

Why?

Were so few people prosecuted because, despite the ease with which volunteers with Check My Vote have been able to identify voter fraud by poring through 8.2 million voter records and over 54 million voter history records, MIchigan’s top election official doesn’t have any interest in finding individuals committing voter fraud, like those who vote from non-existent addresses, or how about individuals who vote two or more times in one election?

Is the MI SOS testing the waters to see how many new voters can vote more than once without being detected before the 2024 election?

Contained in the February 2024 QVF compared to the December 2020 QVF, there is an increase of almost 15x more occurrences of this serious issue where individuals voted 2 times in the same election. The highest occurrence by a significant amount has occurred in our recent November 2023 election.

WHY the drastic increase in multiple votes cast under the same voter ID # in 2023? Was this a test by the SOS’s office to see if anyone would catch these duplicate votes, or are Michigan SOS Jocelyn Benson and Jonathan Brater, her director of the Bureau of Elections, incompetent?

In one of Michigan’s best-kept secrets, MI Director of the Bureau of Elections Jonathan Brater was recently chosen to replace the far-left David Becker as the CHAIR of ERIC (Electronic Registration Information Center) after 9 states dropped the so-called “tool to help election officials maintain more accurate voter rolls and detect possible illegal voting.”

Indian police arrest embassy staffer accused of spying for Pakistan

An employee of the Indian Embassy in Moscow allegedly provided Pakistan with sensitive information

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has apprehended an employee of the Indian Embassy in Moscow, suspected of espionage on behalf of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency.

According to reports from Indian media outlets, Satendra Siwal – a resident of Shahmahiuddinpur village in Hapur – had been serving as a ‘security assistant’ at the Moscow Embassy since 2021. He was arrested after an interrogation by the ATS, during which he reportedly confessed to engaging in espionage for Pakistani intelligence.

The ATS said in a statement on Sunday that it had uncovered Siwal’s communications with ISI agents through electronic and physical surveillance. He allegedly disclosed sensitive information concerning strategic operations of the Defense Ministry, external affairs minister, and Indian military, the statement noted.

”He is implicated in the network of ISI handlers, providing crucial confidential information related to the diplomatic and military activities of India, in exchange for monetary incentives,” the statement added

Oregon Supreme Court Blocks 10 Republicans From Running For Reelection

Ten Republican senators in Oregon cannot run for reelection, the state’s top court ruled on Feb. 1.

The court found that the senators are banned from running for reelection under a constitutional amendment approved in 2022.

The amendment, Ballot Measure 113, states that lawmakers who miss at least 10 legislative days without an excuse cannot seek reelection.

The ruling upheld a decision from Oregon Secretary of State LaVonne Griffin-Valade, a Democrat.

Ms. Griffin-Valade said in 2023 that the senators, under the measure, could not try for another term after their current term.

“My decision honors the voters’ intent by enforcing the measure the way it was commonly understood when Oregonians added it to our state constitution,” she said at the time.

The decision sparked a lawsuit from some of the Republican senators, but the Oregon Supreme Court sided with the secretary of state.

“Because the text is capable of supporting the secretary’s interpretation, and considering the clear import of the ballot title and explanatory statement in this case, we agree with the secretary that voters would have understood the amendment to mean that a legislator with 10 or more unexcused absences during a legislative session would be disqualified from holding legislative office during the immediate next term, rather than the term after that,” the new ruling reads.

Justices said they used their typical methodology in construing the amendment “by determining how the voters who adopted the amendment most likely understood its text.” The method included considering the information presented to voters, which stated that voting yes would disqualify legislators with 10 unexcused absences for the term “following current term in office.”

Israel establishes land route for trade through Arab states, bypassing Houthi Red Sea blockade

Israel is using a land route for the import of goods through the Gulf and across the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, and Jordan to Israel, in an effort to bypass the shipping route through the Red Sea blockaded by Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

Following the start of Israel’s ongoing bombardment and invasion of the Gaza Strip, Yemen’s Houthi rebels launched numerous attacks on ships allegedly on their way to Israel through the Red Sea, seizing them and significantly impacting global trade passing through those vital shipping lines.

That, along with naval and aerial attacks on the Houthis by the United States and Britain, have forced ships to use the alternate route passing southern Africa’s Cape of Good Hope and around the continent and through the Mediterranean, making the trips – and subsequently much of global trade – costlier and more time-consuming.

In an effort to circumvent those circumstances, Israel was reported back in December to have been planning a land route stretching from the east of the Arabian Peninsula to Israel, as an alternative route that could potentially cut the costs and length of time for the transport of goods.

Those reports were initially unconfirmed by Israel and Gulf Arab states, with some such as the Jordanian government denying the formation of such a land route.

In a broadcast by Israel’s Channel 13 this week, however, it revealed that ships have been heading to the Persian Gulf, from where they leave from the UAE’s Dubai, cross through Saudi Arabia and Jordan, and finally reach the Jordan Bridge in Israel.

A special report by Israeli television Channel 13 on Tuesday reveals how Israel is using the land route that begins from Dubai and passes through Saudi Arabia and Jordan to transport cargo in order to bypass the Houthi blockade in the Red Sea pic.twitter.com/FlIQ1tKll5

— Middle East Eye (@MiddleEastEye) February 1, 2024

The operations are reportedly being carried out between two companies – UAE-based Puretrans FZCO and Israel-based Trucknet – transporting goods via lorries and freight, the contents of which include food, plastics, chemicals, and electronic devices or components.

The process is reportedly a pilot test prior to the full utilisation of the route, but Channel 13’s broadcast confirms the reports of Israel’s plan in line with the seeming cooperation and permission of those Arab states, despite the occupation’s ongoing war on Gaza and the genocide of the Palestinians in the besieged territory.

It comes after Israel’s Minister of Transportation and Road Safety, Miri Regev, revealed last month that she was leading plans to develop the route, stating on X that “the overland transportation of the goods will shorten the time by 12 days and greatly reduce the existing waiting time due to the wire problem. We will do it and we will succeed.”

U.S. admits it hasn’t verified Israel’s UNRWA claims, media ignores it

Secretary Blinken admits that the U.S. has been unable to investigate the “evidence” presented by Israel claiming 13 of UNRWA’s 13,000 Gaza employees participated in October 7. Biden took Israel’s word for it anyway.

In the latest demonstration of the boundless cruelty of U.S. President Joe Biden and his despicable administration, they have turned the backbone of what little aid Palestinians in Gaza receive into a political football, to be toyed with and batted around while jeopardizing that support for people who are already near the edge of what any human, however brave, can possibly endure.

It’s the latest in what feels like an eternal cycle of the United States and Israel beating up on the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for political gain. There have been many hearings on Capitol Hill over the years bashing UNRWA and calling for either a complete structural overhaul of the agency or its dismantlement and absorption into the larger United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).

The root of the attacks, prior to October 7, 2023, has been UNRWA’s unique mission which is to provide humanitarian assistance — including food, housing, medical aid, and the role that has taken up the bulk of its budget for years, education — to Palestinian refugees exclusively. Because of this mandate, Israel and its supporters blame UNRWA for the definition of “refugee” in the Palestinian context, which includes not only those made refugees by the 1948 and 1967 wars, but also their descendants born into refugee status.

Many on the pro-Israel and Israeli right and center believe doing away with UNRWA would essentially allow Israel to do away with Palestinian refugees because they believe UNRWA is the only thing maintaining that generational definition.

They’re wrong, of course. International law is clear on this point, as the UN states: “Under international law and the principle of family unity, the children of refugees and their descendants are also considered refugees until a durable solution is found. Both UNRWA and UNHCR recognize descendants as refugees on this basis, a practice that has been widely accepted by the international community, including both donors and refugee-hosting countries. Palestine refugees are not distinct from other protracted refugee situations such as those from Afghanistan or Somalia, where there are multiple generations of refugees, considered by UNHCR as refugees and supported as such. Protracted refugee situations are the result of the failure to find political solutions to their underlying political crises.”

There’s no ambiguity there, but that hasn’t stopped the controversy. UNRWA has been routinely accused of keeping Palestinians as refugees, not giving them the tools to move on to an independent lifestyle as individuals. This is a key ideological component in the denial of Israel’s responsibility for the ongoing dispossession of Palestinians. It absolves Israel of all responsibility for the ongoing poverty and hopelessness that decades of dispossession, occupation, and siege have wrought on Gaza and the West Bank.

Yet, while American politicians don’t think twice about trying to score points by bashing UNRWA, Israelis have always known that they need the agency, despite all their hateful rhetoric about it. For years, Israel would bash UNRWA mercilessly in the media, but would always tell the United States that its operations were necessary, especially in Gaza. Without UNRWA, Israel would be expected to ensure that a humanitarian catastrophe did not ensue, so Israel needs the agency.

In 2018, emboldened by a reckless U.S. administration under Donald Trump, Netanyahu suddenly changed that position and called for the U.S. to dramatically cut its support of UNRWA. Trump eagerly did so. When Netanyahu made that sudden shift, it surprised and disturbed many in his own government who disagreed with the decision. Just about the only positive step Joe Biden took when entering office was to restore UNRWA’s funding. But Trump’s action made the question of UNRWA’s funding even more politically charged than it had always been.

2 Jewish Israelis detained for allegedly spitting at Christian cleric in Jerusalem

Two youths insulted and spat at Christian priest in Old City in first reported incident since war started in October, though before that there had been a marked rise

A video of the incident showed Abbot Nikodemus Schnabel walking with a woman who was filming him and herself. The priest says “shalom” (hello) into the camera before being approached by two youths who shout “f***ing Jesus” in Hebrew and spit at him.

Schnabel said that the footage of the incident shows “a part of the reality of my life that’s rarely filmed. I’ve not sought publicity with them, as there are much more terrible things that people have to suffer here. Let’s pray for peace and reconciliation.”

Foreign Minister Israel Katz condemned the “ugly incident” on Sunday.

“Under Israeli rule, members of all faiths enjoy total freedom of worship, as never has been the case before,” he said in a statement.

Trump claims Israel was part of attack on Soleimani, but pulled out last second

According to Trump, until two days before the operation, Israel was due to take direct part in the assassination itself but then got "cold feet," likely wanting to avoid direct blowback from Tehran.

Former US president Donald Trump on Sunday told FOX News that Israel was originally supposed to be directly part of the operation to assassinate Iran Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force Chief Qasem Soleimani in January 2020 but pulled out at the last second.

Trump previously made similar comments in mid-October 2023 as part of an extended criticism of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel's security apparatus shortly after Israel failed to prevent Hamas's invasion of southern Israel.

In the end, it was the US alone that assassinated Soleimani using hellfire missiles from drones at Baghdad airport.

Trump's comments say differently

But according to Trump, until two days before the operation, Israel was due to take direct part in the assassination itself but then got "cold feet," likely wanting to avoid direct blowback from Tehran.

When Trump's previous comments were made, it was somewhat lost in the maelstrom of news following Hamas's invasion, and no one confirmed Trump's account, with some US officials even seeming to suggest the account was not accurate.

Senior BBC Employee Branded White People a “Parasitical Deviant Breed”

A senior BBC employee described white people as a “barbaric bloodthirsty rapacious murderous genocidal thieving parasitical deviant breed,” while also calling the UK a “bigoted” country.

Tell us what you really think.

Dawn Queva, who is a scheduling coordinator at BBC Three, made the comments on her Facebook page. It is unclear whether they were made before or after she was hired by the BBC, which appears to have done no checks on her background.

While Queva appears to vehemently hate white people, that didn’t stop her living in the UK, a country she branded “bigoted” and “genocidal,” while also referring to Britain as the “UKKK,” a reference to the Ku Klux Klan.

Largest Intel Ops in Middle East against Israeli Mossad!

Dozens arrested in Turkey. Many Others identified by Iran in 28 Countries

Turkey arrests 34 people suspected of spying for Israel’s Mossad

Turkish authorities have detained 34 people on suspicion of engaging in espionage activities and planning abductions on behalf of the Israel’s Mossad spy agency, security sources say.

Officials said Friday 57 addresses were raided in Istanbul and seven other provinces, resulting in the capture of the suspects, while they were still searching for 12 more suspects.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said authorities took action once they determined that Mossad was planning to execute “tactical tasks such as reconnaissance, pursuit, assault, and kidnapping against foreign nationals residing in our country”.

Videos of some of the Turkish raids posted by Yerlikaya showed police bursting into people’s flats, handcuffing suspects and escorting them towards police cars. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office conducted an inquiry which uncovered that nine individuals had sold information to Mossad via private investigators, Anadolu Agency said.

They were recruited to spy on Palestinians residing in Turkey as well as Israeli activists opposed to their regime, the news agency added. Israeli officials contacted the suspects via social media, it said.

The report comes weeks after the head of Israel’s domestic spy agency, Shin Bet, said in an audio recording that his organization was prepared to destroy Hamas “in every place,” including in Lebanon, Turkey and Qatar.

“We will do this everywhere, in Gaza, in the West Bank, in Lebanon, in Turkey, in Qatar. It will take a few years but we will be there to do it,” Shin Bet head Ronen Bar was quoted as saying.
