Jesus is the Promised Messiah, the Savior, not just some guy who said some stuff.
We need a Savior because we are unable to save ourselves.
We are commanded to love one another because God loves us.

Only God can save us, so God humbled Himself and took on the form of a man so that He could save Mankind. He paid the penalty for our sins.

Forgiveness is not for the benefit of our enemies, it is for the benefit of ourselves. Our enemies don't care if we forgive them. They are not giving any thought to it, of losing any sleep over it. By forgiving them, we are not allowing them to live rent free in our brains. It allows us to move forward.
