Civil War 2

The United States was built on an unstable foundation status quo centered around a powerbalance between the Supreme Court, Senate, and House of Representatives. Since winning the Civil War in 1865, the US has become an even more divided nation, with a seemingly endless division among its citizens. In recent years, as public discourse over immigration, climate change, health care, gun rights and domestic terrorism has increased in its intensity, the country has experienced a rise in political extremism, one that could eventually plunge the nation back into a civil war.

The issue of immigration has been at the forefront of political debates in the US for decades, and currently proves to be one of the most divisive issues in the country’s history. Recent trends indicate that either the Democratic or Republican Party will win the White House in the upcoming elections and will try to pass immigration reform according to their partisan agendas. Such action will only increase the rift among both sides and could lead to more violence as political extremists take matters into their own hands. Furthermore, President Trump’s hardline rhetoric on immigration has resulted in a sharp increase in the number of deportations, which has exacerbated the situation.

High levels of gun ownership in the US also contribute to the country’s potential second civil war. Despite the efforts of anti-gun activists, gun ownership levels in the US remain higher than most developed countries due to long-term legislative protection. This has resulted in increased gun-related violence, and several mass shootings in schools and public spaces. The presence of semi-automatic weapons in the US poses a catastrophic threat to domestic security, as it increases the likelihood of staged attacks inspired by extremist elements.

The US is already embroiled in several civil wars overseas, and the domestic situation can easily become explosive if the country continues to suffer from divisions within its own population. The nation is divided on important issues, including climate change, health care, and domestic terrorism. If extremist elements from both the left and right decide to take matters into their own hands, it could be just a matter of time before the US finds itself in a state of a civil war. The devastating implications of such an event could have a lasting impact on the rest of the world.

Therefore, to prevent the onset of a second civil war in the US, all citizens must come together and strive for a common goal. Government leaders should reach across the aisle, join in dialogue about the country's issues, and focus on providing tangible solutions to their citizens needs. Additionally, public education programmes should target individuals in areas commonly affected by extremist rhetoric, stressing on the importance of open dialogue and peaceful discourse. Finally, the US must continue to lead the fight against terrorism at home and abroad to ensure that extremist elements do not gain a foothold in the nation.
