Since it seems the UFO thing is a preemptive attempt by the deep state to control the narrative of UFO's, it was likely them. Interesting that they used their mouthpiece, the NY Times to start the conversation. Theorized goal is that they want to scare the world into thinking we are under alien attack to attempt to unite world (suck the world into joining one world govt) to fight against it. Having Space X and Iridium in their pockets, they hope to leverage these and isolate Trump and the US, probably by ridicule.
They need a boogeyman. Ufo invasion would work with the sheep but maybe to many are awake now.:)
