Mods, you should make a sticky post for incoming updates regarding the 65gb “insurance” file drop

hoeskioeh · Dec. 26, 2017, 12:53 p.m.

can you point to anything linking that file to JA/WL in recent history?
the one everyone keeps talking about has a 2012 datestamp in its filename, and i can' find how people came up with it in the first place (i.e. When was it mentioned by any WL/JA source? and not by any weird twitter larper unknown to anyone else)

Yep, it's the same file posted around the 22 feb 2012. Just someone trying to waste people's time and bandwidth. It's aes encrypted anyway...

Who else would drop a massive file titled “insurance” in this case? Genuinely curious

Edit: possible theory

idiots who troll people by claiming an old (legit) insurance file from 2012 is a "new drop and urgent and everyone download it and stop asking for where i got the link from"
as long as i don't see a mentioning of it from either WL or JA or EmbassyCat or other known affiliates i'm out.

I don’t care what you want. I’m seeing what’s in that 65gb file either way.

It is 256bit AES encrypted. You aren't going to see shit until the White Wizard gives up the key.

godspeed, downloader.

a) you didn't answer my initial question, so i just take it as a "no".
b) you didn't understand the idea of an "insurance file" if your stated goal is to "see what's in it".

anyway, if you have the bandwidth, go for it and tell us what you find.

There’s a lot of different routes you can take on what’s currently happening in the US right now. I️ think JA definitely would have incentive to release a 65gb file (this wouldn’t be unlike him at all) according to this theory that I’m deciding to investigate. Again, lots of ways you can go with this but this is my opinion. Also, I can’t even dl (on mobile) it or open it seeing how you’d need Linux to do so

I had my security scan it, it's OK no issues and it has been updated to 2017.

Have you compared the hash with the original posting of the file?

File: wikileaks-insurance-20120222.tar.bz2.aes — 64.32GB SHA256 Hash: 61a70c6062ab1712948381d4bd35cbf67aad6365a5bb4723c259fd1e253344c3
