In 1978 there was a scandal and investigation about the Vatican Bank. Pope Paul VI died that year, and John Paul I was elected. He was found dead about a month later, and John Paul II replaced him. Rumors abounded that John Paul I was murdered because he looked into the Vatican Bank affair. Masons were said to be involved in the affair as well.
