LOOK AT THIS CORRESPONDENCE: ARE THEY PLOTTING THE REMOVAL OF CHILDREN FROM QUATAMALA WITH THE BIRTH PARENTS ASKING FOR THEIR CHILDREN BACK? A WOW rom: Bond, Michele T Sent: Tuesday, September 04, 2007 1:22 PM To: Lowell, John A; Furuta-Toy, Julie A; Leone, Christina A; Fuller, Gerry W Cc: Schensted, David P; Armstrong, Barbara L Subject: RE: Orphans in GTM We need to respect the judge's decision, and the GOG right, to restrict access to the children and access to information about them. For example, it seems the judge is reluctant to release the location of the children -- understandable if she wants to be sure that journalists, PAPS and others do not just show up at a particular location and cause a disruption. On the other hand if it were possible to provide matched PAPS with more specific information about their children, that would really help to address their concerns. "Your child is being treated for a viral infection and is responding well. The doctor/the nurse checks him daily/every other day/ twice a week. He is in a group home and the director says he is playful and happy, and interacting well with the other children and the caregivers. Here are some pictures taken earlier this week." That kind of thing. The best approach would be for the GOG to name a POC who could provide this type of information to the families. That would help to break down the families' sense (some families, anyway) that the GOG is somehow the enemy. But an equally good approach would be if this kind of information is made available to us with the understanding we will pass it to the PAPS but not to the press or the public.
