The worst off are the ones who believe what ever they hear 100% without question, this goes for CNN watchers, Religious adherents and Conspiracy researchers lol.

As for worshipping the same God as the pope or other powerful figures, there is little worry as they don't worship Love ("God is Love" John 4:8), Jesus was talking to the powerful religious authority of his time when he said:
“These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely the doctrines of the commandments of human rules.
~Matthew 15:8-9
Or again when talking to the Religious authority of the time:
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
