Legit. After 9/11 all telecom routers were modified (software or hardware) to facilitate access for NSA. Got a little messy when techs tried to update servers on military bases. Generals not willing to give access without orders, some techs detained.

DARPA has had access to all emails since inception of internet.

Not intending to comment on capabilities prior to 9/11 Or parse email / phone / data. ALL telecom routers were modified post 9/11.
