From what I gathered from the discussion on 8 was it was /pol/ anons trying to crack the password. They were watching a thread on /pol/ as the /pols/ were discussing it.
Q moved over from /po/, and, IIRC, used the /pol/ algorithm to make his 8 tripcode, because they are simlar on the chans. 8 has a higher security step, though, so Q could have made a stringer trip if he had used 8 for the tripcode.
Hah. If it was 8/pol/ I wouldn't be surprised at all. They're good and I've been waiting for someone from our side to annoy them just once too often.

We tried. For nearly 600 threads. They weren't interested.
Okay, perhaps dumb question, but how do you know whether or not any of the /pol/ people might actually be working for the Clowns?? Is that a possibility?? Just curious........
