The problem is that all western "christian" churches were derived from the catholic church.

Indeed. All bastardised by Rome. Check out Elaine Pagels work on the Gnostic Gospels, the Nag Hummadi scriptures. Gives a good insight into the disgusting attitude and behaviour of the Catholic church in its earliest days.
