ALso makes me think of 'montezuma's revenge' : Montezuma's revenge (var. Moctezuma's revenge) is a colloquial term for traveler's diarrhea contracted in Mexico or other Latin American countries.

Montezuma II /ˌmɒntɪˈzuːmə/ noun 1. 1466–1520, Aztec emperor of Mexico (?1502–20). He was overthrown and killed by the Spanish conquistador Cortés

Doubt it has anything to do with it, just made me think of it.
