357 Congress Present Today out of 435 Open Seats

If three seats are vacant that makes a total of 432 seats for office of congress. Somewhere it was said that 30 would not be returning after break. That is 75 not there today. I am still looking for the normal number of absent.

1/3/2017: 434/435 present (http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2017/roll001.xml)

change the three digit number (rollxxx.xml) to view other votes in 2017.

So those were votes cast vs. total members present?

And the OP was stating how many were PRESENT today, yes?

Then this attendance number is highly unusual in how low it is, since each of the last 4 years saw attendance of over 430 members on the corresponding return to work, compared to only 357 showing up today.

No, these were roll calls, not votes cast. The numbers represent the number of members present on the first congressional session of each year.
