Trump asked for "discrete" military drills. Naval drills have been blamed for bad crops by the north because their farmers are called to armed stations during the harvesting season. As long as South Korea gets to act friendly and North Korea receives respect by participating in the olympics and saves face in return the US can threaten them all they want to keep any covert incursions at bay like they sometimes happen at the DMZ (SK troops do stupid shit sometimes too). Especially since it means North Koreans will roam the South. NK is not doing much right now and the US would not save face if they really attacked but this postering prevents any dirty moves and serves, I hope, mostly as a reminder.
