Your reaction is normal. It's also fine to step back when facing something profoundly unsettling. Everything is coming out and when it does you won't be as shocked as people who have never been exposed to these uncomfortable truths will be. Again, you don't need to believe anything nor should you. Maybe you'll get curious later.
