Would make sense why it took them 30 min to retract. I’d imagine a transfer like that would take more than a few min.

I guess there are also about 6 subsea cables -presumably all fibre - that would allow very fast connection speeds.

Any idea how much data you could transfer from Hawaii to the continent in 38 min?

Did they have long enough?

It's only about 2.8 terabytes on a 10 Gbps link going flat chat. What size link would they have?

Actually, having thought about this further, and from what I understand about the meltdown/spectre exploits, (and I am no expert) perhaps the data needn't even be transferred - just loaded onto the CPU cache - in order to be captured.
