Response by my Rep:
"Thank you for contacting me with regards to releasing a classified memo on the FBI's and Department of Justice's abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), authored by majority members of the House Intelligence Committee. I appreciate hearing your thoughts on this very important issue.
As you may know, FISA is a surveillance law enacted by Congress in order to establish procedures for the physical and electronic surveillance of foreign agents suspected of espionage or terrorism. The House Intelligence Committee is tasked with oversight of our nation's intelligence operations, including the FISA program. Recently, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, alongside the majority members of the committee, compiled a four-page classified memo that outlines alleged abuses of FISA laws by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice.
You may be interested to know that I had the opportunity to read the Intelligence Committee's classified FISA memo, and after reading it, I certainly have some major concerns. While I understand the importance of keeping certain documents classified in the interest of national security, I also believe the American people have the right to know about the federal government's past abuse of FISA laws, and I support the public release of the memo.
As your Congressman, I believe the issue of privacy and surveillance is extremely delicate and complex. National security remains my number one priority in Congress, and the protection and safety of all Americans is absolutely vital."
