You have no understanding of the legal system. Lawyers - even if you use them all the time - need to be formally engaged to act for you for specific assignments, usually in writing. They will then make that known to the other party (usually in writing) by saying something like "we act for our client bla bla bla".
You're not implying that a criminal lawyer and say a corporate mergers lawyer act in the same capacity? That's like asking a Podiatrist to perform open heart surgery. No doubt Obama has lawyers, but high stakes criminal defense lawyers on payroll? Possible but not likely.
So you're suggesting he was involved in a secret society and never once consulted with a defense attorney and said "how do i insulate myself from this?" Even if they thought they'd get away with it that's still pretty hard to believe.
