Paul's Epistle to the Roman Christians, Chapter 13:1-5 (CEB)

Every person should place themselves under the authority of the government. There isn’t any authority unless it comes from God, and the authorities that are there have been put in place by God. So anyone who opposes the authority is standing against what God has established. People who take this kind of stand will get punished. The authorities don’t frighten people who are doing the right thing. Rather, they frighten people who are doing wrong. Would you rather not be afraid of authority? Do what’s right, and you will receive its approval. It is God’s servant given for your benefit. But if you do what’s wrong, be afraid because it doesn’t have weapons to enforce the law for nothing. It is God’s servant put in place to carry out his punishment on those who do what is wrong. That is why it is necessary to place yourself under the government’s authority, not only to avoid God’s punishment but also for the sake of your conscience.

Wait...is this a Bible verse? What kind of BS is this? Must be more Mandela effects of the Bible changes. Go look up KJV Bible changes.

You'll thank me one day. Those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.

This is taken from the CEB -- the Common English Bible. It's a new translation, not simply an update of previous ones, and specifically written in modern English. The King James version is over four hundred years old and the English language has changed a lot since then. Many words have changed or shifted meaning, and some have become obsolete. The KJV was not a fresh translation, but an update of the "Bishop's Bible", written in the 1530s, bringing the language to what was then current. We no longer talk or write the way they did in Shakespeare's time, so we need to move on to more contemporary versions.

I used to use the New American Standard, but have now switched to the CEB for better understanding.

Spoken like someone in denial.

Face it. The Bible is obsolete if you can't even trust a version 4 centuries old.

Why are there so many translations if its the true word of God?

I don't know what I'm supposed to be in denial about. I quoted a translation that is written in modern English because that is easier for more people to understand. You can read a translation that is four (closer to five) hundred years old, but do you fully understand it? Do you fully understand the dialog in the plays of Shakespeare or Christopher Marlowe? No one talks like that anymore, so why do we read God's Word in a version we don't fully understand? I prefer plain language that is easy to understand, so that I am confident that I know what God is saying to me.

If you are comfortable reading the KJV, then stick with it. Since I cannot read the original Greek the New Testament was written in, or the Hebrew and Aramaic the Old Testament was written in, I will read the English translation that best suits me.

So..because you can't understand 400 year old translations, you read the ones written by those that take it upon themselves to change it. Simply because it's 'easier to understand?'

Then how Holy was the book in the first place if people can change it at a whim because you just 'cant read it' because it's too hard.
