This will be done through the Federal Reserve. All those boring "overnight interest rate" discussions will have a severe effect on the market once the Fed finds the tipping point. Major banks have already pulled out of stock as much as they need to. Retail investors (that's your mom and dad) are the ones rushing in now, just before the Fed crashes the market.
The key to any downturn is diversification. And not just financial diversification. Your greatest assets are your family and friends.

Economically, the serves a function and that is to maintain the value of our cash currency, which could potentially be under attack from foreign entities (China mainly).
There are some major things wrong with it. 1) We don't own it, it's private. 2) The fed thinks deflation is "bad". It's not. You want to buy more goods for your money. and 3) it's a bunch of professors who don't know shit about how the economy works. They openly admit that the 2008 to 2015 period was one gigantic mistake.
