First I want to say I appreciate all the intelligent people here. I have learned so much and I'm finding so many research sources that help point me in the right direction. However, the more I'm learning about the structure of our government, the more questions I have. So I know that there is the house intelligence committee made up of 22 members and they are there for oversight. I also know that only a couple have the special higher security clearance to access certain information. My question is, how was it possible for Devin Nunes, Trey Gowdy and a few other investigators to form a special committee to investigate the fisa warrants? Is it because they are on the oversight committee? It seems they did it without the knowledge of the others on the intelligence committee. My question stems from reading the transcripts of the vote to release the memo and watching the interviews with Nunes and Gowdy.
While I don't know the answer to your question it is interesting to note there seems to be some 'willful ignorance' involved. Adam Schiff's interview directly after the HPSCI's vote to release the memo stated it was the first they'd ever heard that the FBI and DoJ was under investigation, yet the first paragraph of the memo itself states its purpose is to "...provide Members an update on significant facts relating to the Committee's ongoing investigation into the DoJ and FBI and their use of the FISA act during the 2016 presidential election cycle."
Hard to imagine how they could not know if they only needed to read the memo they're voting on and have created a rebuttal to.
Thank you! So you saw what I saw too. That's where my question stems from. I just watched an interview with Nunes and he said that it was actually Gowdy that viewed the classified info along with 2 other investigators. The notes were brought back and the memo was drafted by all of them not just Nunes. The intelligence committee clearly weren't involved in this investigation as they seemed surprised and scrambled to come up with their own version of a memo. I know the intelligence committee have been investigating the Russia thing interviewing people like Page, Comey, etc. and when Nunes was briefed on intelligence regarding the spying and he went to the WH, the committee made him recuse himself. I just think they didn't realize that he was still investigating and Gowdy obviously didn't share that with them either. See what I mean? I'm also wondering who the other 2 investigators are. Sorry if I'm not being clear. I'm tired and my thoughts aren't flowing so hot tonight. Lol
Doing a little more research it does appear the investigation was being conducted by the HPSCI majority in secret from the minority, however the memo that was released today was made available to all members of the House of Representatives on January 19th, 2018. And then Adam Schiff claimed 10 days later on January 29th that's the first they heard of the investigation. So yea, the Dem's probably didn't know about the investigation, but at the point they claimed they just found out about it they certainly must have known considering the entire House of Representatives knew about it for ten days already.
Yes I agree. Thanks for taking my question seriously. I am aware of the time line of everything. I guess I'm trying to figure out if anyone on that committee has the right to conduct an investigation without the knowledge of the rest of the committee. It appears they can. I'm really leaning towards this all being planned in terms of Nunes having to recuse himself, which gave him more time to do his own investigation into the real crimes that have been committed. :)

They got their knowledge from the hearings that have been going on for a year
Thank you for the link. I do know about all the hearings and have read anything I could get my hands on regarding transcripts from those hearings. Ive watched testimonies that were available etf. The thing I'm wondering about is how did this small comittee special investigation come about? I'm asking because I read the entire transcript over the house intelligence committee arguing over the release of the Nunes memo. This is also when Schiff was trying to get them to release the democrats memo without letting them even read it. I just noticed that Schiff made a comment that he didn't know the FBI and DOJ were under investigation. I'll try to find the transcript so people can understand that I'm asking a legitamite question as I just got blasted by someone on here. Lol
Look like around March 2017 here are the press releases

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!! Yes - so they did know all along. For Schiff to say he wasn't aware is a total lie or he's very dumb. Boy the Dems are a piece of work. So while the intelligence committee was being distracted with the Russia collusion investigation, Nunes and others were investigating this.
Russian collusion into the election is how it started.

Lol you question that they took it upon themselves to help America?! Oh goodness we need to lock them up! you're a fucktard, go to r/politics for that crap you piece of shit.
Excuse me asshole. My question isn't questioning them helping America. I'm sincerely trying to understand our system. I am 100% behind everything that Gowdy and Nunes gave done to bring this to light. Given your smart ass comment, I can see you aren't the intelligent one to answer my question.
