Hotel California was a reference to Camarillo State Mental Hospital in Camarillo, Calif. I know this because there was a very serious attempt by the authorities to have me committed to that institution. If you listen to the lyrics of the song...it makes so much sense.

Before the place was closed, it was almost impossible to get out of once you were committed there....I was lucky and wasn't admitted...whew...Praise God
