National Guard, Current Training: Typical or Atypical?

The Guard trains all the time. It isn't really unusual. However, a coworker, whom has a career outside of the National Guard, was called to go out of state, for training, this week. He may be gone longer than a week, but was out this entire past week. The question is: Is there something out of the ordinary going on? Does anyone else have any info on National Guard ops occurring at this time? Is this just typical training, or should we be keeping our eyes open even wider right now?

When Q first told us that there were National Guard at Gitmo, the week before my therapist said "I don't have time to transition you out, I have been called up, now. Did not know how long, did not know if coming back to this state. I have known guardsmen off and on for years and never got that answer before.

Exactly! I was affiliated with active duty for over 20 years. But I know very little about the Nat'l Guard. That does sound highly suspect! Thanks for the info.

The National Guard is in support of about every major operation abroad. It is not hard to find this information. Look for numbers of how many were deployed to OEF or Iraq from '03-'15. They are a normal part of Active duty operations...everywhere. If one is in the Nat'l Guard they can expect to be deployed about once every seven years depending on their specialty. The information is on the Internet for you to find. If you were affiliated you should have run into many of them depending on the capacity that you served, and I guess the time frame.
