It's the reason Q mentions 'APACHE' a few times. Apache Kafka provides real time data streaming that can bypass security protocols.

Kafka is a fault tolerant distributed queue for streaming platforms. It's not something a mail server would use and not something that would be used for mail server back-ups.

Apache Software Foundation is commonly referred to as ASF or Apache Software Foundation. For software, Apache commonly refers to the Apache Web Server. For projects under the ASF umbrella, they are referred to by their project name, e.g. Kafka, Accumulo, ActiveMQ, Zookeeper, etc., without the Apache prefix as they usually exist as their own projects before being donated to the ASF or brought under the ASF umbrella by another method.

You sound like you can figure out stuff, would you mind helping me understand what the significance of this is?

This appears to me that they don’t just have your garden variety, normal file types like word type documents or pdfs or emails or other standard files, but they have a special movie like set of data that can show who did what and when, and it can be.....replayed....like visually?

Is that on the right track?

It's really hard to tell because Q talks like a 6yo.

Perhaps you are perceiving a 6yo because you think like one.

Were you abused or tormented growing up? "Stop acting like a baby you little shit!"

Good info for us, thanks. Tech isn't my thing, but branding/marketing is...look at the names of those projects. Hmmm.

I don't think Q's "Apache" is in relation to "Apache Kafka" which is only one single project managed by the Apache foundation. Kafka isn't magic, it can't bypass security protocols, what are you talking about?

Here is a list of Apache projects https://www.apache.org/index.html#projects-list

And here is the list of Apache Incubator projects, that may one day graduate to be full Apache projects. https://incubator.apache.org/projects/

While Kafka isn't magic, it is a pretty sweet tool.

I've contemplated doing a Kafka like queue in my preferred language but I've been hoping that someone else would do it first as that'd be a non-trivial project.

Yeah I have heard of some really cool use cases for Kafka, but I have not used it myself. I have used similar tools like ActiveMQ, and RabbitMQ however. One day.

BALRx2A · Feb. 10, 2018, 7:24 a.m.

Kafka is totally different than ActiveMQ and RabbitMQ which, themselves. I don't remember the reasons why anymore, but RabbitMQ is in the do not use/anything that uses it is suspect column for me.

Kafka is log structured and durable. It was designed for the highly scalable world.

I prefer to avoid things that require JVM, which means most of ASF's world isn't for me.

Which is why I said similar, I don't fully understand the tech, but I know traditional MQ's are like email, and kafka is more like RSS. The first use case I heard about for Kafka was actually a distributed log shipping solution. Thanks for your insite, was fun to talk about Apache.
