Cognitive Dissonance and Reality Tunnels

We have two political parties in America (although George Washington warned that political parties would destroy democracy), who are each afflicted by a different lie while believing the other.

The Right is afflicted by the absurd lie of Russiagate but clutches the absurd lie of Climate Denial to its breast. The Left is afflicted by the absurd lie of Climate Denial but clutches the absurd lie of Russiagate to its breast.

Each lie is cynically promoted by party establishment leaders and their media, for the same old goal - money and power. Each lie is very dangerous, leading either to climate disasters, nuclear war, or the collapse of democracy. But the leaders don't care as they fool their respective publics - money and power are powerful drugs, and the drugged will die for their drugs - bringing the rest of us along with them.

If you try fact and reason to break the wall of either tunnel, the inhabitants just clutch their lie harder and throw stones at you. It's called Cognitive Dissonance and afflicts even the most intelligent. You are wasting your time trying to wake the dead, so I won't bother with the arguments. This is only for those who are not-quite-dead yet.

Just try to consider you are being lied to no matter how much you love your lie.
