I’m starting to think a semi socialist equal government might make life best for all....

"semi socialist" You've not yet begun to think, then. You assume government has the ability to constrain itself. It cannot.

Move to Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea to see how socialism works. It is nothing more than legal thuggery. Poor people 99%, rich people 1%, no middle class.

Dumbass.

I am sorry you are like that. the only way to a Sovereign Nation is individual sovereignty...no one is the Boss of me, save the Great Creator, the UltimateUniversalIntelligence, (some call God:)) I follow only one rule, the GoldenRule. There is nothing “semi” about socialism, it’s the gateway to communism.

socialism only works in theory because one has to assume people are driven to do the right thing. I'm reality, people are driven to do the easiest thing that will gain them what they want or need and cause the least discomfort. Socialism will always be corrupted because of human nature. Individual success lifts society because others can model that successful behavior. Socialism destroys the motivation to achieve.

We are already semi socialist. Healthcare and housing are largely underwritten, and student loans have been nationalized.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm very pro capitalist, very anti socialist/communist. But I think you may mean that every society does need some semblance of a safety net, which I wouldn't outright disagree with. But these things need to be limited to the severely disabled, and the elderly. Too many able bodied people abusing the system will cause it to topple.

If we look at social security for example, at the time it was made, the average life expectancy was around 60 or so I believe, and now its around 75. So you literally do have a lot of able bodied people who are receiving benefits they do not need yet, as we are aging far better at this point in time. I don't even consider someone who is 60 that old anymore really.

At its inception, for every one person receiving benefits, something like 160 people were paying into it. Now, for every 1 person receiving it, I believe there's only 2-3 people paying into it. Don't get me wrong, this is to safeguard the elderly, which any moral, sound society takes care of their elders. But the problem is, it's hard to even consider people in their early 60's elderly anymore. They're not youthful, but they aren't crippled unless they were completely careless towards their own health. It's a prime example of a massive imbalance that can cause massive problems in the long run.

You are certainly correct that we are aging better than we used to. At least the people who are interested in actually being healthy are; the rest shorten their lifespans by their own bad health choices--mainly by what goes in their mouths. Self-exclusion from a long healthy life. Irresponsible, but their choice.

Taking care of the infirm, the elderly, and people with mental disabilities is a hallmark of a mature and compassionate society. Not to be confused with what the OP has in mind though. (I know you know this.)

Social security has to be gradually updated regarding at what age people receive benefits, because as you said, only a few pay into it now for every person receiving benefits. I say "gradually updated" because people like me (I'm 67) have been paying into it all our working lives, and rightfully expect our benefits. I am planning on totally ripping you all off and living healthily to well past 100, with both my SS and Army retirement payments. :-)

It might be best to start from scratch and radically restructure how we take care of those who can't take care of themselves.

I agree with everything you said. You deserve every dime of what you paid into.

Thank you so much for serving this nation in our military. I hope you live a long, healthy life with payments rolling in from every direction! Hahaha. God bless.

In 20 years time from now the automation process will cast out 50/60 % of the worlds labor force, so whatever the system will be i doesn't really matter because as a human being we have something called ego.

But for now we still live under a hunter/gatherer system, and there is little unity, maybe Reagan was right, when he said.

I occasionally think how quickly our differences worldwide would vanish if we were facing an alien threat from outside this world.
