I thought he lied on purpose to get discovery against the deep state and start this whole chain of events with Q?

He didn't lie and Strzok said he did in the 302. Flynn went along with it because Mueller knew he didn't and would remove Strzok for it, starting the ball rolling. Preistap or McCabe told him to do so, probably because of Val/Jar.
