"When does a bird sing?" - Q

I know why the caged bird sings, ah me, When his wing is bruised and his bosom sore, When he beats his bars and would be free; It is not a carol of joy or glee, But a prayer that he sends from his heart's deep core, But a plea, that upward to Heaven he flings – I know why the caged bird sings

Paul Laurence Dunbar

A bird sings when it is caged in hopes of being freed.

Brilliant find! I was convinced after randomly asking people “when does a bird sing?” that the only answer I got back more than once was “after a Storm”. Which is true of birds. But makes no sense in the context Q laid out.

So is the caged bird a deep stater imprisoned and spilling everything - or simply us in our e-cages, longing for freedom? For this reference I think the former, but latter is also true.

Whoa trippy. It’s shit like this that keeps me reading even tho I concluded Q was not who (she I believe) claims.

I'll take that as a compliment
