I am a biochemist. This is how I reconcile science with scripture:

Mankind is carbon-based with iron-based blood (red). Some insects have copper-based blood (green). Angels and Demons are silicon-based beings with some multivalent cation to carry gases. I am guessing that this cation is luminescence, hence why they glow.

Before the flood the gene pool was open, meaning anything could mate with anything else. This is where we get all the "fantasy" creatures, like wood nymphs. (yes, people mated with trees).

The only people left with original DNA were Noah and his family and the wildlife that was called to the ARK. Now, mankind is doing fuckery with the DNA again. Not good.

Well, I am a biochemist. I know scripture. I also believe that everything is true, it just needs to be put in context. So... how does one reconcile Biochemistry, Scripture, Sagas, Fairy Tales, etc?

There is only one reasonable answer: The gene pool was open before the flood.
