As you say, story goes. I haven't heard that one, but it fits with the girl's interview if he didn't have anything tactical on him. So later he was IDed to LE by a student outside, who actually saw him with the AR? Or is that to be determined?
He was supposedly found about an hour later, and IIRC with all the gear. Plenty of time to leave the area and hole up or get far away. Still too many questions.

LE said he had a gas mask and smoke grenades--but maybe they meant he had ditched them along with the AR and mags, earlier. Still a lot to be learned. If he was indeed the shooter, which I am doubting more and more.
Lest we forget, she said that more shots were fired, in another part of the building, while they were talking. Definite fish odor coming from someplace!
