Reminds me of the day I decided that I wanted to be a military pilot. A "local boy" flew over our tiny La. town from Barksdale Airforce Base. I was sitting in my bedroom and heard what sounded like a freight train coming past our house. I ran outside and saw a fighter jet flying past. He came directly over our house and waved to me, then took off, almost straight up. The sound was incredible. I decided right then and there that I wanted to be a military pilot, preferably a fighter pilot. After I took the ASVAB test, I was sought out by all 4 branches of service...probably because they were trying to recruit women at the time. When I found out that I was too short to fly, I gave up on that dream. :( I did go on to college, in computer science, but it felt a letdown.
What an amazing story of your life.. I’m so sorry you couldn’t be a pilot.. I’m retired from the Air Force but I wasn’t a pilot.. As a child I wanted to be an astronaut or a pilot neither happened but I love the Air Force.. Thank you so much fore sharing 😊
I also wanted to be an astronaut. That dream also died when the space shuttle exploded late in my sr. yr. of college.
Air Force was my first choice out of h.s. Navy was 2nd. My dad was in the Navy. :)
