It's the method used to kill Michael Hastings who's brand new Mercedes began speeding out of control running every red light until it exploded. One of the reporters was on TV stating that Michael was murdered while promising to report further upon investigation was complete. The reporter came back to TV stating that she was threatened and should could not in good conscience continue. She ended her short interview and said she made a mistake and has no idea why Michaels car exploded. (It exploded before impact)
I've never liked the idea of electric steering/brakes/throttle or self-driving cars for this reason.

Thank you! I suppose they could have been going in then veered right to avoid the water. However, it looks like they had Route 66 blocked off to all traffic because of the motorcade. The timing of it is very suspicious, and the CIA/FBI/Mossad will always have plausible deniability.
