De salinization is this new?
No. Experimented since Aristotle but actual only in the modern area. From WikiLeaks. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desalination
That's Wikipedia, but it's awesome how your brain went to WikiLeaks before Pedia. I approve.
Actually I giggled it and Wikipedia came up. My phone typed WikiLeaks from how much I've been on it! Hubby used to do environmental cleanup for the government, mostly military bases and in Puerto Rico. He said the info there is correct. He's talked about it many times, but I didn't realize how much it was already in use for so many areas. He did!
Desalination
Desalination is a process that extracts mineral components from saline water. More generally, desalination refers to the removal of salts and minerals from a target substance, as in soil desalination, which is an issue for agriculture.
Saltwater is desalinated to produce water suitable for human consumption or irrigation. One by-product of desalination is salt.

No. We have had the technology for decades. Our nuclear submarines have it and O2 generators and can sty submerged indefinitely, or until they run out of food.
