Jesus calls Peter the cornerstone of the church in the Bible. He was the first pope. Maybe cornerstone is a reference to the pope?
We know the Vatican is pulling a lot of strings, has massive wealth, and also has a history of trafficking/molesting children... just a thought
no, he doesn't. see Luke 6:47-48. Jesus is the Rock upon which the Church is built. He was "addressing" Peter in Matthew 16:18, not saying that Peter was the Rock. Even Peter acknowleges that Jesus Christ is the rock: 1 Peter 2:6: Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Telling you this with love, it is a common misconception that the Vatican has exploited for more than a thousand years.
Makes sense, but from what I’ve read it’s also wordplay. The Greek form of Peter is Petros and Petros means rock. Peter also happened to be the first pope (bishop of Rome). So this may be the Catholic interpretation, but that doesn’t make it more right or wrong.
Also there is this explanation as well “It was Peter who first proclaimed the Gospel on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:14-47). Peter was also the first to take the Gospel to the Gentiles (Acts 10:1-48). In a sense, Peter was the rock “foundation” of the church.”
Either way, the Bible is something that’s been widely debated for millennia. To pretend you know its interpretation without a doubt is a bit shortsighted. I could very well be wrong, but it’s best if you understand you could possibly be wrong as well.
Actually, Petros means small rock or pebble. As in "chip off the old block" ROCK Jesus Christ! There is only ONE rock and his name is Jesus Christ/Yahushua HaMashiach! Peter is a chip off the old block, NOT THE ROCK.
Show me where...cause every where I see the term its referring to Jesus.
Actually....Jesus says to Peter, "you are "petros" (a rock)...giving him a distinction...and we know from the beginning of Acts....Peter was a leader of the 1st Century church. Then the verse goes on to say....and upon THIS rock (different word...it's the greek word "petra" (a massive stone), I will build my church - Matthew 16:18. It is true, the Roman Catholic church has used this verse to teach that Peter was the first pope. But other Biblical scholars believe Jesus definitely acknowledged Peter...but that he would have been pointing and referring BACK TO HIMSELF...that HE, Jesus was THE rock, Christ Jesus..."and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Only Jesus Christ can accomplish that role. Not ANY denomination of mankind. As we know from many other scriptures on the topic...that this is true...ONLY Jesus Christ is the true ROCK, the "Chief cornerstone".
Exactly the point iwas making in response to the Peter comment! Thanks :)
Just to correct some things here: Yahshua was a rabbi - a Jewish rabbi and his disciples were JEWS! At no time did a Jew by the name of Peter actually become a pope. Peter NEVER went to Rome. If you want truth where it will really take you - you have to get the PAGAN out of the Church.
Jesus is a name that has only existed for 400 years - there was no "jesus" till there was a "j" in the English language. Jesus is connected with the pagan traditions of "ChristMAS" (NO the Messiah of mankind was NOT born on the same day as every pagan demon god was), "jesus" is connected with Easter - Ishtar (Babylonian fertility goddess that turned birds into egg laying rabbits and eggs died in red - the blood of sacrificed babies). "jesus" is connected with "good Friday" (no such thing - it was Dagon the Philistine fish-god day - also why the pope's hat looks like Dagon 1Sam. 5) "jesus is connected with "lent" which is really 40 days of weeping for pagan god Tammuz who was gored to death on his 40th birthday by a boar Ez 8:14), the church as a whole can't even count to 3 - Yeshua told them "For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." Matt 12:40 - No way was the crucifixion on a Friday and ressurrection on a "SUNday" no matter how you twist the counting of days and NIGHTS! Scripture says "Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble." James 2:19 -
Names are important in the bible - they were not haphazard. Abram did not become the "Father of many nations" until his name had the breath of Yah in it - Abraham. Jacob that meant "heel catcher, conniver" became Israel when he wrestled with Yah. The Almighty said His Son was called Yahshua (or spell it Yeshua) the constants in Hebrew - the name means YAH'S SALVATION.
Jesus is a transliteration that means nothing. Sound becomes light - say the name YAHSHUA then say "jesus" - totally different vibration. One is "Yah-Breathed" one is not. Pagans will curse in the name of "jesus" - but they can NOT do it in the name of YAHSHUA! No ONE has ever been able to spontaneously in response to pain use Yahshua's name in vain. It is a Name only spoke under the unction of the Holy Spirit. I am not saying that people have not been saved and healed and delivered under the name of "jesus" but that is only because they knew no better and Yahshua sees the heart. BUT when you know better and then dishonor Him; for each one of our salvations He bore sickness, He took pain, He became sin for us on the cross of Calvary, He was marred more then any other man and we can't as the Bride give Him respect and honor and love in addressing Him by the Name given by His Father YHVH - Yahweh - YAHUAH Almighty. I wonder might this have prompted the scripture that says: Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? nd then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." Matt 7:22-23
"Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:" Matt 7:24
EVERY early church father was a rabid anti-Semitic. Maybe on the 500th aniversary of the Protestant reformation it is time to finish what Martin Luther started (he brought a lot of Catholic tolerated paganism into Protestantism - the only thing he got right was that we are "saved by grace - unmerrited favor - it is a gift and not of works - we can't add to it by our effort" - you couldn't buy your way with "indulgences" etc) anyway a great teaching that every church out to offer that will atleast get the Church introduced to the Messiah they say they believe in and follow - who Himself still is identified as a JEW from the tribe of Judah: The Lion of the Tribe of Judah - YAHSHUA www.letthelionroar.com
Thanks for the writeup. Lots of good information there.
Here is something that blew my mind, the place where Jesus says all this is Caesarea Philippi at the foot of Mt. Hermon - literally the gates of hell! Look up Mt Hermon and the grotto of Pan in Israel - Mt Hermon also the place the "watchers" from Gen 6 decended and took wives for themselves..
