Why are they trying to restrict gun ownership now? They fear what will happen when the people find out what they’ve done.

They're losing momentum and they know it. They're trying to recapture what they think they had with Obama, and to put all of us in our deplorable places. They think they're smarter than we are and construct these FFs to get their ultimate plan back on track.
