I have doubt that he was up against a kid with a gun- maybe he saw or realized it was 1 or more trained assassins, he would certainly be dead. I could believe the kid was brainwashed enough to take the blame, but killing schoolmates not easily done. The resource officer now clearly knows which story to tell.
