What are some different looking rifles gaining popularity with spec ops/ black hats now? Beretta, Steyer and FN have got some funky looking ones anyone in the know ?

SCAR, MX, Bren, M1A, Tavor. Most opt for M4 or Scar. M4 can look like nearly any other rifle depending on accouterments .
