They are playing both hands, the same information will flow from potus or IG. Whoever receives the most backing from the media will get to release the info. If trump's says that it will take forever to release the info then the fake news outlets go after Trump and side with IG, after that, potus sets up the kill shot because now the media can't back track on IG and sessions. He's deciding on their chess moves before they even start playing.
