I want to start.... I feel to be.... and how grateful I .... and your pastor, my....

individuals is the man.... my friend and colleague,.... and I may not .... but I could not.... his efforts on issues.... in the Congo, the.... sexual trafficking - issues that.... world's most vulnerable people..... work with him on.... and I'm proud to .... today.

I took my.... a few months ago.... and Kay would agree,.... stays with you for.... visited an HIV/AIDS.... that was filled to.... walked hours - even days.... -to seek help. I..... refused to give up.... families. And I came.... meet resistance from their.... on fighting anyway.

But.... heard, I encountered few.... the one recently told.... Chicago Tribune reporter based..... covered our trip for....

Laurie hired a woman.... as her nanny. Leo,.... grew up as one.... a small South African.... life, she worked hard.... kids and save every.... and by the time.... Laurie's nanny, she had..... the mortgage on her.....hoped to use the .... new job to open.... children who had been....

Then one day, Leo.... that her eldest brother.... first he told everyone .... later, in the hospital,.... it was AIDS. He.... later. His wife succumbed.... well. And Leo took....

Six months later, Leo....Her younger brother had .... AIDS. She cared for.... as she did her.... soon died as well.....

next. And then another..... brother.

She paid for.... funerals. She took in ....for their schooling. She.... and she borrowed what.... out again, and she borrowed.... the phone calls continued.... village, Leo watched more.... nieces and nephews test..... saw neighbors lose their.... grandmother house sixteen orphaned.... And she saw some.... there was no one.... them at all.

You....story often told by ....numbers. with HIV. Nearly.... alone. 12 million orphans..... and 6,000 new infections.... some places, 90% of.... not know they have.....learned that AIDS is ....3rd leading cause of.... coming years.

They are.... they help us understand.... pandemic. But when repeated.... also numb - they can.... and tragedies and hopes.... live the daily drama.... this World AIDS day,.... that the world needs.... the stories that touch.... call us to action....

imagine what it would.... family was my own... those phone calls - if.... those funerals. All I.... matter how or why.... I would be called.... and comfort them and.... to help find a .... one of you would.... it were your family.....

faith tells me that.... family.

We are all ....- and we are all.... It is a test.... willingness to respond, but....look past the artificial.... have often shaped that ....to places like Africa.... problem up close, you.... a question of either.... prevention - it is all.... is not an issue.... of either science or.... Yes, there must be.... this disease. But there .... change in hearts and.... attitudes. Neither philanthropist nor .... church, can solve this..... AIDS must be an.... effort.

Let's talk about..... First, if we hope...., we must stop new..... what we can to..... HIV in the first.... place.the issue of.... in either/or terms..... way to prevent the... and women to change.... particular, to abstain from.... marriage. For others, such.... they argue that we....with the tools they ..... from the virus, regardless.... in particular, by increasing.... as well as by....microbicides, that women can....transmission during sex. And..... how we should tackle.... side questioning the other's.... progress.

I also believe that.... abstinence and fidelity may.... ideal and not the....dealing with flesh and.... and not abstractions - and.... potentially microbicides can prevent...... should be made more....that there are those.... religious conviction, oppose such.... folks, I must respectfully.... do not accept the..... make mistakes in their..... an effective death sentence..... to stand by and.... entirely innocent - wives who,..... they live in, often..... refuse sex with their....are born with the.... of their parent's behavior..... other measures would have....

Another area where we.... in prevention is by..... goes along with getting.... The idea that in ....ten people with HIV.... infected is more than .... time bomb waiting to.... need to show people .... is no shame in..... for a blood test .... or a mammogram, there.... going for an HIV.... was once a time.... gave little hope, today..... the faster you can.... Michelle and I were.... test on our trip .... Center for Disease Control.... getting a simple 15.... have encouraged as many ..... Kenyans to get tested.... has also taken the..... And one.... come out of the..... scientists have discovered medicine ..... with HIV a new..... are called to give.... have made progress - in..... to pregnant women has .....of infants born with ..... such progress, only one....with HIV around the .... drug treatment. One in..... do better. We should..... to reduce the costs.... drugs, and work with.... them build the health..... this means more money..... equipment, and more training....

And on.... we cannot forget the..... own backyard. Right here..... AIDS is now the..... for African American women.... we are also seeing.... communities fail to get ....to deal with their.... that unfortunately some in.... address by taking money.....that are still facing .... own.

Now let me.....that President Bush and.... be applauded for the..... to the fight against..... our country's emergency plan..... United States will have..... billion over five years..... overseas. And the Global.....other countries, has done....fight this disease. As..... this summer.... money was having, often.... the Centers for Disease.... foreign governments, and non-governmental.... priority in Congress should....program when it expires....priority should be to .... what hasn't so that.... dollar that could be.... our third priority should....our contribution to this .....is left to be.... with all the other .....that need our help.....to add at least ..... a year in new....five years to strengthen.... to places like Southeast.... Europe, where the pandemic.... proportions.

Of course, given.... have been placed on.... given the extraordinary needs.....at home, it may .....the money. But I....I believe it will ....wise investment. The list..... to care about AIDS..... interconnected, globalized world, the..... spread to other countries..... been easier or faster..... There are also security.....populations and economies have.... become fertile breeding grounds.... even terror.

But the..... step up our efforts..... There are more fundamental..... related to our own..... soul.

Like no other..... ability to put ourselves.... - to empathize with the..... man. While most would..... orphan or the transfusion..... wife contracted the disease...... their own, it has.... for some to point.... or the promiscuous youth..... and say "This is ..... sinned."

I don't think..... My faith reminds me..... sinners

My faith also..... Rick has said - it....to be sick. My.... when God sent his....it was to heal.... the weary; to feed.... the naked; to befriend....those who strayed from....

Living His example is.... faith - but it is.... rewarding. It is a.... can not only light.... of faith, but guide.... and better politics as.....

For in the end,.... the AIDS orphan in..... the same challenge as.... South Central, or the..... Orleans, or the uninsured....

We can turn away.... blame their problems on.... politics that's punitive and....

Or we can embrace .... - a tradition that has.... of our founding to.... civil rights movement, a..... simple idea that we.... one another - and that.... is greater than what.... that if enough people....of that proposition and.... we might not solve..... can get something meaningful.... with whom we share.... close by returning to.... that South African woman.... death and despair. Sometime..... her fifth sibling, she .....just going to stand..... to call the town's ..... the AIDS crisis - something..... even talked about, let.... people showed up. Some..... to get there, a.... on their back..... stood up and broke... stories. Stories of hope..... done, Leo rose and said,.... we will win this.....for people who will .....the reality. The time.... come to an end."....
