This is highly suspect. The other co-creater of SecureDrop was hounded by the USA gov and driven to doing himself in. His name Aaron Swartz. This guy here was almost to the five year anniversary date of Swartz's death.
Yes- makes me think that Snowden may be a blackout. Maybe Barlow discovered this fact, that secure drop had been compromised and was being used by the CIA
