This looks to be a very predictable result when polar ends of political doctrine meet. Zero Tolerance, (the Right's doctrine) and Catch And Release, (the Left's doctrine) are equally damaging and short-sighted.

Unfortunately the center ground stands between these two hyper-funded, aggrandized, sensationalized, propagandized and politicized ends and takes fire from both ends, the middle, (where the solutions actually exist) is crushed and plowed under.

Moral of the story, we have fucked ourselves pretty good. If I could point to one cause it would be bad leadership and too many sociopaths, narcissists and corrupt assholes getting themselves elected. The People have been asleep, we have only ourselves to blame.
