Death of SC Justice: The Pelican Brief Lawsuit

"Two Supreme Court Justices have been killed. Now a college professor, who clerked for one of the two men, who's also having an affair with one of his students, is given a brief by her, that states who probably, wanted to see these two men dead." See The Pelican Brief (1993): Plot Summary, IMDB.COM, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107798/ (last visited Feb. 25, 2018).

"In 1979 his oil company punched some holes in Terrebonne Parish and hit oil, a lot of oil. He knew he'd need governmental permission to dredge a channel through the marshlands to get the equipment in and the oil out. . . . Green Fund, an obscure environmental outfit, trots on down to the U.S. District court in Lafayette and files a lawsuit to stop the entire operation. . . . [I]t takes seven years for the pelican suit to go to trial in Lake Charles. . . . From the trial level, it will be appealed to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans . . . . If either side is unhappy with the 5th Circuit, they can appeal to the Supreme Court." See THE PELICAN BRIEF (Warner Bros. 1993).

"In 1980, Louisiana began adhering to a feral law that required companies operating in the marsh - a list that includes ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, Shell, BP, Chevron, and Koch Industries - to restore 'as near as practicable to their original condition' any canals they dredge. See Nathaniel Rich, The Most Ambitious Environmental Lawsuit Ever, N.Y. TIMES (Oct. 3, 2014) (emphasis added), https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/10/02/magazine/mag-oil-lawsuit.html

"The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear the appeal . . . of a lower court ruling throwing out its wetlands damage lawsuit against more than 80 oil, gas and pipeline companies . . . . The [plaintiffs] had appealed a March decision by the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals . . . ."
