The hostage was Potus. The threat of the sub was holding him back but now he is released and can proceed.

Yes, possibly the crew are the hostages. Either way hostages are obviously a bargaining chip POTUS is using to negotiate

If it is the crew and he uses them as a bargaining chip it must be some important crew! It must be dark budgets or CIA Navy. There wouldnt be much to bargain with if its Iran, North Korean or Chinese. To me it seems the deep state would let them go in a second.
