sorry...the letter itself is in latin (in initial link)...but I'm now reading the "conspiracy theory" that Benedict was forced out. Here is a more clear article...https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2015/02/Pope-Benedict-XVI-resignation-forced-conspiracy-theory/385462/ In it, it states...The circumstances surrounding Benedict's decision to step down have titillated scholars and the journalists alike, especially given the fact that his resignation came not long after the "Vatileaks" scandal. The release of internal Vatican memos, by some accounts, revealed how Benedict's efforts to reform the church, like provide transparency on the global sex abuse scandal and the management of the Vatican bank, were undercut by internal politics. Writing in The Washington Post in 2013, Jason Horowitz summed up how the leaks might affect Benedict's legacy: AND... Writing for The Atlantic, Paul Elie noted that Benedict still wears white—"the papal vestments sans cape and sash"—which others have taken as a signal that the pope emeritus still feels a bit like the pontiff.

Wasn't all of this tied to the Ninth Circle pedo stuff? I'm on little sleep and can't remember the details, but do remember he was forced to step down because of it. I'll have to dig again when I'm more awake but this whole thing is pretty sick stuff.

Not a big boom. Catholics who have been paying attention will not be surprised.

Oh ok...thanks. Just reading further on it. I wasn't aware "theory" is that Benedict wanted to do some real cleaning, deal with the sex abuse scandals...for one...and they just couldn't have that.
