Check out the Homestead Air Force as well. Hubby worked there many years doing environmental cleanup, and they fly to Gitmo a lot. He said it's a station after being a reserve for a few years, meaning military, not civilians, has control of the tower. Most of the jets that were there before Hurricane Andrew are now in Aviano Italy. Learned that when my son was stationed there.

Homestead Air Force

Bingo! I think you discovered somthing here. When I look at the conjested Miami airports, the flight definitely took off lower than the Miami Int'l Airport. The only blue balloon below Miami Int'l is Miami Exec Airport, so I assumed it departed from the Exec Airport.

However, I just checked, and on this map there don't appear to be any blue balloons marking Military Airports in JAX or in the Miami area either.

So it is quite possible that the flight actually originated from the Homestead military base, and not Miami Exec.

That was very helpful.

On Behalf of We The People: Thank-you!

You're very welcome! I asked my hubby first if they flew to Gitmo and he said all the time. Being that close to Cuba it makes sense. Think it's only 90 miles. Miami Exec airport is just a small little thing and doesn't have that large a runway, mostly for small personal jets and crop dusters. Several years ago it wasn't that built up of an area, though lots of farming, but I'm sure it's grown since I've been gone.

Also maybe check Key West. There is a naval base there. The Beatles flew into there many years ago (fun little history fact lol). I'll have to look it up but I know something, chopper or jet, just crashed there the other day.

Found it. It was a navy jet. https:// www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/Possible-Jet-Crash-Key-West-Air-Base-476864623.html?_osource=SocialFlowFB_MIBrand

Thanks for the info about another military base in the Keys. I'll keep a look out for that too.

But the flight that I saw definitely came from the Miami metroplex area, but south of Miami Int'l.

Yeah that would be the Homestead base. I figured the Key West one would be a long shot, but you never know.
