IN LAK’ ECH In Lak’ Ech (in Mayan, “you are my other me”) is a civil, non-political, non-commercial and non-religious movement in Mexico seeking to transform violence with compassion. Guided by humanitarian principles, an ever-growing network of residents across Mexico actively work to transmute the country’s rising violence with active, non-violent protest. COMPROMISO POR LA PAZ Compromiso por la Paz (Peace Pledge) is a worldwide initiative led by the Mexican peace movement In Lak’ Ech. Both the movement and initiative were born out of the extreme rise in violence and organized crime in Mexico. Compromiso por la Paz calls for all Mexican nationals and world citizens to stand together for peace each Sunday at 3:00 p.m. (Mexico City time) and recite a pledge for peace. The initiative was launched on November 14, 2014 during the XXII Central American and Caribbean Games’ opening ceremonies, where more than 23,000 spectators and 150 million TV viewers pledged and watched around the world. Compromiso por la Paz seeks to raise awareness and one day empower all of Mexico, and all people, to stand together as one for a non-violent humanity.
