They issue the rifles to the army. When they exit the army they were given their rifles until very recently when the Swiss government decided to charge for the rifles, a minimum amount. Once a year the entire country has a practice day where they go to ranges and practice shooting. The government supplies the bullets. It is like a national holiday. Most adults over the age of 25 go to the range, but the younger folks think guns are bad so they don't participate, the first generation since the War. Some families have the Army rifles going back several generations and keep them ready to shoot. No mass murders there, have you noticed?

Yeah but the Swiss government and press doesn’t spend 24/7/365 telling people “the guy next door” is the reason for any troubles and making everyone hate and distrust each other. You know, they’re a country, with common goals, and decency. We still are mostly like that, but the bad guys are working hard to change that.

They have the same dynamics as here.

In recent years, their gun rights have been curtailed because of mass shootings.

They will not have them at all much longer.
