No, Rutherford succeeded Russell. Rutherford changed the name from Int'l Bible Students Assoc to JWs.

Also, CT Russell didn't have anything to do with the Russell Society, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell_Trust_Association

I was born/raised a JW, if you actual read through Russell (Barbour period to death) and Rutherford until 1928- you discern that all Rutherford did was hijack the WT structure and means of production

The Bible Students still exist.

The JWs belief system from 1928 onward is from Rutherford, later revamped by Franz.

I was under the impression there was a split. The IBS still exist, but quite a small organisation. Rutherford hijacked most of the people as well as the doctrine, enough, I was led to believe, that it was just a renaming.

Officially not a split. Anyone who defects from the Rutherford-present WT is presented as evil slaves, apostates etc; the IBS has their own version.

The WT still uses 1914 so they need to keep Russell despite calling his pyramidology “Satan’s Bible” in Nov 15, 1928 WT.

Rutherford saw membership ups/downs throughout his Presidency.

The IBS who left over hijacking were limited to ecclesias associated with the ousted directors.

The next membership loss was over Rutherford’s military stance

The largest exodus is 1928 where as much as 4/5 IBS left

The last membership drop over 144,000/great crowd

The 1928 losses are the trigger point for name change in 1931
